Frequently asked Questions

Hypnotherapy and control

What is hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a psychological therapy that uses targeted hypnosis to change habits and improve thoughts that may be negatively impacting your life.

What is hypnosis?

Hypnosis is when you go in to a trance-like state.  This is a very relaxed state in which you can disconnect from everyday distractions and worries.  You are able to focus on individual thoughts, concerns, or habits that may be negatively impacting your life.  In this state, you are open to positive suggestions and ideas that can improve your overall wellbeing.

Who is in control when I am hypnotised?

You are always in control.  You can come out of hypnosis when ever you feel the need to.  The suggestions made are always positive and will be taken on board only if you want them to be.

Being in a hypnotic trance

Will I be asleep?

No.  Through hypnosis you will be very relaxed but still awake.  You may not be aware of your surroundings, or everyday sounds, and you will still be able to move, if you have an itch for example, and talk if the therapist asks you a question.  You are in control the whole time.

Can I come out of hypnosis easily?

Yes, as you are in control and awake,  you can bring yourself out of hypnosis if you need to.

What does hypnosis feel like?

Through hypnosis you will feel deeply relaxed and comfortable, like you were simply sat, with your eyes closed, relaxing and deep in thought or daydreaming.  Any tension and stresses can be eased or disappear altogether while in a trance-like state.  You will be conscious the whole time, aware of what is being said to you, aware of your own thoughts.  Everyone feels slightly different during hypnosis.
